Cold Plunge: What? Why? How?

Our newest addition at Total Rejuvenation is our Morozko Cold Water Plunge. As it settles in, we wanted to make sure we took the time to let you know the what, why, and how behind cold plunges.

Cold plunges are a form of cryo-therapy that uses water to chill your body. We keep our tub at approximately 34 degrees Fahrenheit. The tub itself cools from the bottom and will typically either have ice forming on the bottom of the tub or sitting at the surface of the water. So what are the benefits and why should I care?

Cold water plunges have been a part of rituals dating back to Ancient Greece. The Greeks used cold therapies as a form of socialization and medicinal treatment for feverish symptoms. It was not until the 1960s that researchers started to look into the benefits that cold plunges could provide for performance recovery.

In recent years, the popularity of cold therapies has continued to increase as benefits from cold therapy become common knowledge. Our bodies experience vasoconstriction, our more surface level blood vessels shrink and force the majority of our blood into our core. As our blood flows through our core, our internal organs are able to effectively clean our blood.

In addition to providing us with rejuvenated blood, exposure to the cold temperatures can be beneficial for muscle recovery and pain relief as well. Athletes and fitness enthusiasts have begun incorporating a cold plunge into their weekly or even daily routines in order to promote faster recovery.

While we see what the benefits can do for specific ailments, we must also acknowledge the general benefit that will help anyone that is ready to jump into the cold water. By creating a routine and working on your mental toughness, you can begin to see relief from anxiety-related issues.

So, how do I try this out and what does it entail? We have appointments available in fifteen-minute intervals and pricing, packages, or memberships available to fit your lifestyle. Since our water is kept at the chilling temperature of 34 degrees, a two-minute session is all you need to receive full physical benefit. If you’re looking to challenge yourself and work on your mental toughness, then you can stay in the water for up to 10 minutes.

For everyone coming in to try the cold plunge, it is important to remember that any amount of cold is going to provide you with benefit. Each person will have different goals, experiences, and lifestyles, so let us know how you want to incorporate the plunge.
